Wishing you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year!

Looking back over the last year, I have noticed how much more women’s health is being discussed regarding steroid hormones and the debilitating symptoms that can happen when they become imbalanced. It also seems that more and more celebrity figures are taking on the cause as they themselves are now reaching menopause and suddenly understand how much women in the past have suffered in silence. However, these feisty women are no longer prepared to keep it a taboo subject and are speaking quite candidly about their experiences and offering to help in various ways. This is to be applauded as they have the means to reach many women who are left in the dark particularly about certain treatments that are much more natural and safer than the conventional types.

The one person who stood out for me was Carol Vorderman who, on the Lorraine Kelly morning programme, bravely described how much she suffered with menopausal symptoms which was broadcast last May 2017. It was so refreshing to hear her say that she was taking bio-identical hormones which literally saved her life. She explained that she was taking these kind of hormones as opposed to pharmaceutical HRT. Carol is a smart lady, but was so fortunate to have the knowledge to choose the safest natural route to help her symptoms.

Bio-identical hormones are so called because that is exactly what they are – biologically identical to the human hormones in every single way. However, for some reason, it seems that they are often being confused with synthetic drugs that mimic hormones. Those who seem to be against them usually describe them as being untested or unregulated and thus could be potentially harmful, yet at the same time do not acknowledge that they have been produced in our own bodies from the beginning of time. We only need to supplement with them when they become too low which can cause very unpleasant symptoms as our bodies struggle to cope with the change. If this is necessary, doesn’t it make more sense to put back the hormones that are biologically identical in every way to those hormones our bodies are missing? Most women only need progesterone as it is the precursor to nearly all the other steroid hormones, but if a little oestrogen and (in a very few cases) testosterone is needed, they are available in their natural form.

Another very smart lady who has been an advocate of bio-identical hormones for many years is Oprah Winfery. She has held many debates about the benefits and has written extensively about them in her ‘O’ magazine. Perhaps if she were to become a world leader, things may change for the better for women on that front!

Please share this article with others as so many women are still left in the dark believing that their only options for relief are conventional HRT or anti-depressants.
